Following a law degree and various jobs, Richard was ordained in 1998 and served in churches in London before moving to St Alban's in 2008. He is married to Andrea and they have two young daughters. He enjoys music, fencing, and spending time with the family.
|Rev Derek Holbird
Derek is a teacher by profession. His career included working in Shottermill and as head teacher in London. He was the Director of Education for Guildford Diocese and a Lay Canon of the Cathedral. He has served in various capacities in church leadership. Derek is married to Liz and they have four children and eight grandchildren.
|Rev Dr John Strain
Assistant Chaplain at Manormead
John, formerly Director of Surrey University's Applied and Professional Ethics Centre while also serving as St Alban's Hindhead Curate, has recently retired from the Diocese of Chichester's 'Octagon' Parish and returned to serving in Hindhead, this time as Manormead Supported Housing Assistant Chaplain. John and his wife Margaret live in Grayshott.
Jo has been leading worship for many years and has a passion for encountering the presence of God through music. Jo has a BA in music and works with children with special needs and as a fitness instructor. She also plays at Acorn Healing Foundation and the Filling Station. Jo is married to Marcos and they have two children.
Warden & Pastoral Assistant
Having gained a psychology degree, Heather (married to David, below) became a Probation Officer, working with clients with complex needs. Since retirement she has continued voluntary work with people struggling with addiction, but has been able to devote more time to gardening and travel.
Married to Heather (above), David has been flying for fifty years and now does a little instructing in helicopter simulators. He loves the area and the people. Bee-keeping, gardening, the family and voluntary work keep him busy.
Jenny is married to Paul and they have two daughters. She is a full time mum and enjoys Zumba classes and movie nights with the family. Jenny also helps with Junior Church and the weekly toddler group.
John has worshipped at St Alban's since 1950. He was in aircraft manufacturing working on 1950 V-Bombers to the Concorde. He's married to Greta and has a daughter and two granddaughters. He is interested in politics and local affairs and prefers classical music and opera to the modern stuff.
Rebecca worked as a solicitor and, later, as a primary school teacher. She is married to Duncan (below) and has two sons and a daughter. She loves singing, walking her dog and Pilates.
Assistant Warden / Stewardship Coordinator
Married to Rebecca (above), Duncan runs his own Change Management business, coaches at Grayshott Cricket Club, and enjoys films, music and the gym.
Honorary Pastoral Assistant
Recently retired as Pastoral Assistant after over 20 years with particular responsibility for Springkell Nursing Home, Ruth previously taught Art and Religious Education in a teaching career ranging from appointments with USPG Missionary Society in Barbados to the Royal Naval School in Haslemere. We wish Ruth well in retirement and look forward to continuing to enjoy the results of her on-going love of people, prayer and painting.
Rosemary, retired from Nursing, has been a Pastoral Worker in the parish for over 20 years, with particular responsibility for Moorhouse, one of our local nursing homes. She was widowed in 2002, married Peter in 2007 and now has two adult stepchildren. She enjoys walking with her two dogs and also loves Classical Music.
Peter worked in the Finance Industry for 33 years before joining Surrey Police as a civilian Station Officer. He married Sue in 2008 and they have six children and five grandchildren between them. Peter's passions are the theatre and cricket.
Sue worked with pre-school children and their families for over twenty years. She is married to Peter, and enjoys an active family life. Her interests include a love of reading, music and the theatre.
Following Nursing training in London, Stella moved North with her husband and their two sons. After completion of their education, she worked in Nursing with children and the elderly. In 2007 she and her husband retired to Hindhead where they found St Alban's to be a very strengthening, loving and supportive environment.
Tanya is a self-employed bookkeeper, working for several local companies. She is an honorary vice president of Haslemere Rugby Club where she is also membership secretary. Her hobbies include singing with Farnham Rock Choir.
